Employers of Domestic Workers (Maids) Are Not Required to Contribute to EPF in Malaysia

Published on 22 Aug 2025, last updated on 22 Aug 2025

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has announced that starting 1 October 2025, employers in Malaysia will be required to register and contribute 2% of wages for all non-Malaysian employees.

However, this requirement does not apply to domestic workers (maids).

Who Is Required to Contribute and Who Is Not?

According to the EPF’s official guidelines on Contribution for Non-Malaysian Citizen Employees:

EPF
“Non-Malaysian citizen employees with a valid work pass (excluding domestic workers) must be registered and have contributions made on their behalf by their employers.”

In other words, domestic workers (maids) are excluded from the mandatory EPF contribution.

What This Means for You

If you employ a Filipino or Indonesian domestic worker, you are not required to:

  • Register her under EPF
  • Make monthly contributions on her behalf
  • Deduct any EPF contributions from her salary

This exemption provides greater clarity for household employers, especially as other statutory obligations, such as SOCSO, already apply to Malaysian employers.

Pinkcollar will continue to monitor announcements from the EPF and update our employers if any changes are introduced.

If you have further questions about your responsibilities as an employer, feel free to reach out to us directly or refer to EPF’s official website for the latest information.
